Introduced for the 2011 model year behind the all-new 6.7L Power Stroke, and the only transmission ever offered with that engine — Ford dropped the manual option entirely at this generation. Unlike the 5R110 it replaced, it delivers all six forward gears at any time rather than skipping one when cold.

Strengths

Known weaknesses

• Reported issues include hard shifting, torque converter shudder, overheating, and fluid leaks, often traced to valve body wear, tuning, or seal degradation.
